Rapid growth in buying groups led to overcrowding
at the warehouses. At the same time MGP is in the
limelight for its distribution system, its education
and protection activities. The need was felt for its
own premises. At this time, the Bombay Municipal Corporation
(BMC) made available to MGP about 5000 sq.ft. Plot
in Juhu on long lease. On 15th March, 1987, the then
Municipal Commissioner, Shri. S.S.Tinaikar laid the
foundation stone of ‘GRAHAK BHAVAN’ at
Juhu. On 13th March, 1988, former Chief Justice of
India Shri Yashwantrao Chandrachud inaugurated ‘Grahak
Bhavan’. The money was raised through membership
fees and by asking MGP members for donations and interest-free
deposits for this specific purpose. It was built by
the consumers, for the consumers at a cost of Rs.
15 lacs. Not a single paisa was asked from government,
trade or any other organization!
