Take only
as much water as required for drinking. Instead
of throwing away the rest, water the plants. Or
collect it in a pail to use for the floor. Children
can be encouraged to water the plants in the school-yard
with left-over water in their bottles.
-
While washing
clothes, the water from the last rinse can be
used to wipe the floor or clean the bathroom.
-
Bathe from
water in a bucket rather than using the shower.
While brushing teeth, shaving or washing vessels,
turn on the tap only when required.
-
While cooking,
use only as much water as required. Water left
over from washing lentils, rice, vegetables can
be stored in a pail and used to wash the kitchen
platform. Wash again with a little clean water.
|
-
Switch off
lights, fan, other electrical appliances when
not in use whether at home, school or office.
-
Try to work
together in one room. During holidays, siblings
can play together in one room to save electricity.
- Try not to use the drier of
the washing machine in summer.
-
Iron the
heavy clothes first and the light clothes later
after switching off the iron.
|
-
First make
all preliminary cooking preparations, and then
light the gas stove. If there is a phone call,
switch off the stove.
-
Use only
as much water as required while cooking a dish.
Use shallow and if possible, copper-bottomed vessels.
Cover the vessels.
-
If possible,
everyone at home should eat together. Reheating
food destroys its nutritional quality, changes
its taste and wastes gas.
-
Never heat
anything immediately after removing from the fridge.
First bring it to room temperature.
|
-
Use public
transport. Use private vehicles only when necessary.
People traveling in same direction can do so together
(car pool).
Or use commercial mass transport (auto or taxi)
instead of own private vehicles
- The vehicle should be in good
condition.
- Do maximum amount of work in
one trip.
-
If held
up at the traffic signal for more than 2 minutes,
switch off the engine.
- Don’t brake constantly.
Instead drive at 40 km/hr.
